The medium of pen and ink was a favorite for the artist. These range from some of his earliest drawings like "The Old Churby Mill" which was done while Foster was at Moundsville State Penitentiary. The last drawing he completed before succumbing to cancer in 2005 was "Coal Miners Preparing for Shift Change."
